Small Glitch????

Posted by Deirdre Iams-McGuire at 16:59 on Tue, Dec 22, 2009

I put up a poll about a month ago, and I noticed that when I tried to vote myself, it said in the info thing " You have selected to options, the maximum is 1" so when I went and changed it to 2 options and tried to vote again, it worked only the first 2 options were selected, and they were not the ones I'd chosen.  Any ideas why or how this happens????

Hi Deirdre.

I'm not sure what the problem is with the poll you mention - I think it is the one called Fruit? I've been having the same problem with it when I looked at it. However, the other two polls you've made re Favourite Characters and Favourite Books do seem to be working OK.

Howver, I must apologise, because I never realised that you had finished the polls and wanted to make them public. I'd thought you might still be working on them in draft. The thing you need to do when you want them published is to submit them for publication: you do this by logging in, opening the drop down list under "state" (right-hand end of the green edit bar) and clicking on "submit". The poll will then be listed clearly as awaiting publication when one of the site administrators logs in, so they know you want it published.

The other thing is we need to link the polls somewhere on the site, so that people know they are there. I've created a new forum for this, called "Polls" and have put up conversations for each of the three polls you've created. You'll see I've done an initial post with a link to the poll itself in your home directory. People should be able to vote and can also post comments to the conversation if they wish to discuss their choices further.

If you, or any other members, want to create other polls then that should be fine. Make the poll in your home directory. Then just create a new conversation in the Polls forum and link the poll using the link options (the tools for this are in the green bar at the top of the "Body text" box in which you type your comments for a forum post). I find external link (the globe symbol between the chain and the anchor) works best, as it lets you preview the linked page before okaying it.

Hope that makes sense and that your polls (and others) prove popular!
