Does anyone know anything about this?

Posted by Rob Boden at 11:02 on Fri, Dec 26, 2008

As you may know, I posted four short, poor quality videos to YouTube about six months ago.  I occasionnally check to see if anyone has watched them - the latest figures are 1,364 for the campsite on WCI, 894 for the harbour, 204 for the dog's home and only 124 for the inside of the Dog's home! (search on Swallows and Amazons to dfind them).

However, what also showed up was the "Duffers screentest (2009 premiere)" which seems to portray someone as AR with his daughter (though both dressed in perhaps current style), discussing fatherhood.  Posted by HarperB03 whose other postings refer to various quite serious plays and the Theatre of the Dales, so I assume this is some sort of trailer for a play to appear next year?

Any information anyone?

Rob

I think it happened last March, ie in 2008. Theatre of the Dales performed two plays, I was a stranger and Duffers. The first was, I believe, about Prince Alamayu, Queen Victoria and Cyril Ransome. I've seen the second described as "...a 'dream play' with Arthur sitting fishing and musing on reminiscences of his father and his estranged daughter..." That does sound and look like the clip you've found. Apparently the play was first performed in the late 1990s, but I'm not sure where.

I believe that local TARS did organise a display at the performances, and I had thought I'd seen a follw up report about it in one of the Society publications, although at a quick glance just now I can't track it down. If I recall the report correctly, the performances were well-attended and well-received.

I suppose it is possible that they are thinking of producing it again? However, there is nothing on their website to suggest this at present.
