AR's birthday celebrated in style by SW region

SW AGM and AR Birthday Lunch

On Sunday 25^th January 2009, SW TARS held their AGM and AR birthday celebration in the fine and comfortable surroundings of the Devon Hotel, Exeter.

The formal business was transacted before we sat down to an excellent carvery lunch. We awarded Jackie Snowman a laurel crown as our SW poet laureate. Derek Parkinson enthused us with details of his miniature theatre, which later this year will be the centre of an AR production scripted by Victoria Connelly.

Jenny Coverack, actress and radio broadcaster, began the afternoon with a reading from Winter Holiday to set the scene for our guest speaker, Antarctic explorer John  Killingbeck. He gave us a fascinating picture of British Antarctic expeditions in the 1950’s and 60’s.

The afternoon concluded with tea and the cutting of Arthur’s birthday cake by new Junior TAR Alastair Poole.
