Blood Red Snow White shortlisted for Costa Children's Book Award
Book about Arthur Ransome's time in Russia makes the cut
Marcus Sedgwick's novel, Blood Red Snow White, based on Arthur Ransome's time in Russia has been shortlisted for the Costa Children's Book Award 2007. The shortlists for the Costa Book Awards (formerly the Whitbread Awards) were announced on 21 November. Read more here...
Marcus is the only male author to make the shortlist which he shares with Ann Kelley (The Bower Bird), Elizabeth Laird (Crusade) and Meg Rosoff (What I Was).
The winner of each category will be announced on 3 January 2008 with the overall winner of the 2007 Costa Book Award being unveiled on 22 January 2008. Last year's winner was Stef Penney with The Tenderness of Wolves.
Part fairy-tale, part spy mystery and part love story, and set at the time of the Russian Revolution, Blood Red Snow White cleverly weaves all these threads around Arthur Ransome, the real-life hero of the piece, to create a compelling story that will captivate readers of all ages.
Marcus Sedgwick was a popular speaker at this year's Literary Weekend held in Leeds, and has previously been shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal.
