Description

Pterodactyl is a large and powerful motor yacht, capable of long-distance, high-speed cruising. She is steered from inside a deckhouse. Internally she has a large saloon, which Mr Jemmerling has converted into a study. From the description of Dick's time aboard, it is clear that the vessel has ample space for crew quarters and storage for some, at least, of Mr Jemmerling's egg collection.

Factual Inspiration

The Pterodactyl does not seem to be drawn from any specific vessel. In many respects she is presented as a "Gentleman's Yacht", although in Mr Jemmerling's case this description arguably stretches the English language to breaking point.
