First day at school

And we're starting to get a little feedback in terms of who uses these pages ... to the right is a distribution map (worldwide) of who hit the site on its first day (Sat. 21 April 2007).

Screen Resolution

Another choice to be made when designing a web site is deciding what size of screen to optimise the site for.

Typically the site will display on any size of screen, however it will look better on certain sizes than on others.

We have optimised this site for use with screen sizes of 1024 x 768 (or larger) so to those people with smaller screens, our apologies, things might look a little squashed. Here are the stats on the sizes of screen used by people viewing the site so far. (Incidentally, we had 262 people looking on the first day!)

Connect Speed

Another design issue we had to address was the speed at which people connect to the Internet. We essentially had a choice between a very basic graphically limited site which could be used by anyone anywhere over any sort of connection, or an enhanced site with aesthetically pleasing graphics (and potentially audio) which could be used by the majority.

Although we have tried to make the site as friendly as possible, we have leaned towards the latter with a view to the future when everyone will have a high speed connection. In the meantime, here are the connection speed stats from yesterday. As you can seem we're optimal for over 75% of all users to date.
